Weekly Roundup 2/4/2026
First off, this year's calendar is live with all my events, classes, performances, and book releases. Check it out, and let me know where and when we're going to hang out.

A little over a month ago, I had big plans for this year. BIG Plans, new beginnings, hit the ground running, and all that. Unfortunately, my stomach decided I needed a month off. January saw me dealing with a stomach issue that took several doctors multiple attempts at getting me back to functional. For the last week or so, I've been doing tons better due to three different medications that have settled my stomach. My God, I am loving food with flavor again, and protein and calories have given me new boosts of energy.
Over the years, I've learned to take time off work when I need to rest and heal while ill. So, for a month or so, I spent a lot of quality time benching some shows. I finally finished Stranger Things. Before this, I'd only seen the first season. The first three seasons were great. Season 4 felt needlessly bloated, and season 5 was a solid fine, mostly due to uneven storytelling. ,season 2 started strong and then got a little tedious toward the end. I think it's getting too many story arcs, following too many characters, and going in too many different directions. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is off to a solid start. I'm enjoying a different take on the world of Game of Thrones. Wonder Man was mostly brilliant. I loved it so much. I've also been playing a bit of Marvel Rivals, and it's an awesome game.
Speaking of Game of Thrones.... I referenced George RR Martin in yesterday's 10 for Tuesday.
Even though I put most of my work on pause, I did push through and finish Dramaturgy: Making Magic with Narrative. With LTUE looming and promising people attending my Masterclasses that they would get a book for taking the class, I absolutely needed to finish this one. I'm super proud of this book. Like The 4 Principles of Engaging Writing, Dramaturgy is another one of those books that's been bouncing around in my head for years and years. I've taught most of the material here in one form or another, refining the concepts over time, until finally reaching the point where I believe everything was ready to put into print. And so, now it's available to take up space in your reference library.

Speaking of LTUE... It's next week. For those of you in the Utah area, I've still got plenty of space in my 3 Masterclasses. Two of which will get you a free book for participating. I've also got a bunch of other cool stuff going on at the event. Bard for Life, nerdy trivia, Genre Underground open mic, Gallowglas Army Bingo, and lots of chances to win free books.
Earlier today, I posted the first episode of the Wite Right Now podcast. This will be an ongoing series about leveling up your writing game. Let me know what writing topics you'd like me to cover.
In other podcast news, the Hardcore Fanboy Podcast returns for season 2—with a bit of a twist from season 1. Every Tuesday, I'll post a 10 for Tuesday. This week was My 10 Best Fanboy Momentsin-depth. Every Friday, I'll go more in depth into the list, nerding out about things I love that impacted my life in some way. Someday, I'll start my podcast, WTF... What the Folklore. This is a podcast where I'll rant about crazy bits of folklore from cultures across the globe. Wait until you hear the WTF about "The Frog Princess." It's so much stranger than you remember.
I'm sure I'm forgetting something—possibly multiple somethings, but I'm rather brainfried from being up before 5:00 AM, and my other writing projects aren't gonna write themselves.
Ohh! Yeah! I signed a contract with Space Cowboy Books to publish my poem, “A Case Study of Flatline Promises”. I will let you know when and where you can get that. It's so cool to get paid for my poetry. This one will buy me about 3 cups of coffee.
Ohh! Yeah! Part 2! This Saturday at noon, I'll be hosting a creative writing lab in person at the Parliament Wine Lounge in Old Sacramento at noon. It's another way to level up your writing.
Now... I really need to be DONE with this update. To close, I'll leave you with a teaser cover for something coming later this year.
