“Tell a Story Day” chain story kick off.
April 27th is “Tell a Story Day,” and a group of writers has gotten together to celebrate by writing a group story. You can see the participating authors at the event page at www.genreunderground.com.
I get the honor of starting the story off and setting the tone. #BWAHAHAHAHA!!! Here we go!

An elf, an android, and a lawyer walked into a tavern.
Really, they walked up to a tavern. Just as the lawyer reached the door and made to step across the threshold, an arm bigger and heavier than the lawyer’s portfolio blocked his path. A troll leaned its pug-faced nose and mouth full of tusks so close the stench of its last four meals churned the lawyer’s stomach.
“You a lawyer?” The creature sniffed at the lawyer with enough force to pull several of his perfectly groomed hairs out of place. “You smell like a lawyer.”
The elf and android reached forward to shove the troll away. The lawyer raised a solitary finger. The last thing they needed was for this to get physical so soon. Maybe later, but not now. Both bodyguards backed down.
The lawyer produced a business card and held it up. The troll squinted at the card and grunted.
“Help a guy out,” it growled. “Can’t read.”
“Ah.” The lawyer’s tone conveyed the practiced disdain that learned men reserved for those they believe their intellectual inferiors. “The card reads, Irwin Reginald Smith of the law offices of DWC&H, and, I prefer the term, ‘Legal solicitor’.”
“Can’t ya read?” The troll asked, pointing his thumb over his shoulder to a sign that read, NO SOLICITING.
“Oh. Well. In that case, I’m a lawyer.”
“Oh. Well. In that case, we don’t serve your kind here.”

You can read the next part of this story at M.R. Merrick’s website, probably his blog, at some point later today, 4/15. I can’t wait to see where the other writers take this one. What do you think?
