Tears of Rage Update

Greetings to all my Tears of Rage readers out there. I know many of you are itching for some tidbit of book four, and I’m happy to say I’ve been plugging away at it a little here and there after taking some time off to work on the most recent Halloween Jack book.

First let me give you some good news. I’m already pushing 70, 000 words on that bad boy. So, it’s coming along nicely. (For those of you also eagerly awaiting “Legacy of the Dragon Bone Flute,” don’t worry, I have time budgeted for both. For those of you itching for more chapters of SPELLPUNK those are starting back up again this Friday.)

Okay, now the OTHER news. It’s not necessarily bad news, but it may not be exactly what you want to hear….er….read… Book 4 of Tears of Rage was announced as The Fires of Night. Well, that’s now book 5’s title. I’m tossing around two titles currently for book 4. A Tangled Web and Preditor and Prey.  As I’ve been working on it, if I wanted to get to the point I’d first intended as the closing point of The Fires of Night, I probably wouldn’t get that book out until near Christmas of this year. One of the reasons I’ve been keeping the Tears of Rage books smaller than your typical epic fantasy, is that I wanted to be able to put them out with a greater consistency than other series with their massive, door-stopper tomes. Not that there’s anything wrong with door-stopper tomes, just I wanted to do something a little different. So… In the interest of getting more of Julianna, Faelin, Damian, Xander, and Grandfather Shadow into your hands sooner rather than later, I’m breaking the continuing story into two books. I’ve found a satisfying stopping place for book 4 that isn’t too terribly cliffhangerish….AND….readers will see several central conflicts in the books so far come to  a conclusion in ways that I hope will shock, amaze, and have you shaking your head and asking yourself, “WTF just happened there?” If I did my job at all well, you’ll have to go back and read it a second time, just to make sure you read it correctly the first time.

MORE good news. I’m not planning on changing anything about my writing schedule for 2013, which means, barring a huge life-changing event (like maybe having a baby), you will see two Tears of Rage books in 2013, book 5 releasing just in time for Christmas. You’ll also be getting Halloween Jack 3SPELLPUNK, and several shorter works including “Legacy of the Dragon Bone Flute” and another Jaludin story.

As I’m not completely married to either of the titles for Tears of Rage book 4, please feel free, without knowing anything about book other than what I’ve hinted at in books 1-3, to give me title suggestions in the comments. If you come up with something I use, I’ll give you a proof copy of the printed book as a thank you!
