Meet the Character Blog Tour

Here I was, enjoying my regular Monday routine, taking Miss Megan to her ballet class, when I see that Jennifer Brozek calls me out on Twitter with a link to her most recent blog post.

The long and short, is that it’s part of a chain blog tour, called, “Meet the Character.” Since I’m working on two things right now, you’re going to get insight into two of my characters, Halloween Jack from my Halloween Jack books and Boy Scout from my serialized novel, Dead Weight.

1.What is the name of your character? Halloween Jack and Boy Scout

2. Is he/she fictional or a historic person? Both Halloween Jack and Boy Scout are fictional characters. I’ve had several people ask me if I Boy Scout is a fiction version of myself. Let’s set the record straight: No.

3. When and where is the story set?

Halloween Jack: The 19th Century of an Earth similar to ours, but not quite, because some events in the world of Jack’s adventures, the timeline of events don’t line up with those events in our world. This third installment of Halloween Jack’s adventures, takes place in San Francisco, Ireland, China, London, Russia, and the Vatican.

Boy Scout: His story takes place in the near future of our world, though I chose not to specify exactly when in the near futures. Most of the story takes place in San Francisco and in the realm of Faerie of Irish mythology.

4. What should we know about him/her?

Halloween Jack: He’s a trickster. He makes plans with multiple layers that take years to come to fruition, almost always out thinking his adversaries. Oh, and don’t take a wager against him. He always wins….maybe not in any way you might have expected, but he wins.

Boy Scout: He wants to be a good man, but circumstances and powers beyond his control have forced him down paths that have where guilt weighs on him. He’s also has a magical talent where he can learn about events of the past and the future by writing.

5. What is the main conflict? What messes up his/her life?

Halloween Jack: He has to keep dealing with nasty and wicked creatures that prey upon mankind. In the upcoming book, Jack hears about some demons running around San Francisco who don’t seem to be afraid of jack o’ lanterns. When he goes to investigate, he learns about a new threat to the world.

Boy Scout: He’s become a pawn in the games between the Seelie and Unseelie courts of Irish faerie, and manipulated into doing some pretty terrible things. He’s just trying to make it right, or at least, do what he can to ease his conscience.

6. What is the personal goal of the character?

Halloween Jack: Figure out what the new threat is and determine how to keep it from harming the normal people in the world.

Boy Scout: Like most heroes, ultimately, deep down, Boy Scout wants to do the right thing. Like most heroes in a story, things don’t really work out that way.

7. Is there a working title for this novel, and can we read more about it?

Halloween Jack: Halloween Jack’s next adventure is Halloween Jack and the Red Emperor.

Boy Scout: The next time readers see Boy Scout is in my novella, “DEAD WEIGHT: Search and Destroy.”

8. When can we expect the book to be published or when was it published? If all goes well, both of these stories will be available in Oct 2015.

I’m going to tag: Christopher Kellen, Janny Wurts, Jason Hough, and Frances Pauli. Now, I can’t promise they will play along, but I hope they will.

As an added bonus, if y’all wanna ask me questions about either Boy Scout or Jack in the comments, I’ll answer them the best I can.
